Porsche Crest Disconnect EGR in 77

I would like to know the proper way to disconnect the EGR system in my 77.

I do not want to butcher anything in case I need to reconnect it.

So far, I think there are the following areas I have to address:
  • 2 connections from Top part of EGR to throttle body.
  • 1 connection from bottom of EGR to Exhaust gas filter
  • I connection from bottom side of EGR that goes somewhere?
  • Connection at muffler from Exhaust gas filter.

I just want to ensure I do this right and not cause any problems i.e., vacuum leaks etc.

If anyone has done this and could provide me the steps to take (pictures would be great) it would be very appreciated.

I've not heard of this before.

What would be the advantages?

I removed mine (but retained all the parts) to permit the installation of SSI's; the EGR filter and lower EGR line interfere with a passenger side SSI. Removing the thermal reactors will eliminate far more heat but that is probably not possible in California.

Your location says San Diego - aren't you still subject to smog testing with a '77?

If you do remove it, you will need to plug the hole left in the muffler. One option is to tap the tube (I forget the size) and plug it with a bolt:

Reviving this old post.

Is plugging both vacuum ports at the throttle body the proper way to plug that end of the system? There are 2 vacuum lines like the op states above. The egr valve is not hooked up to the stainless steel filter under the engine, and I have the boss on the muffler plugged similar to the photo.

Getting ready to put the motor back in and want to remove egr issues as a troubleshooting step.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

If you look in the throttle body you can see the EGR valve holes above the butterfly. I simply blocked mine off in this manner:

You can also find a 3.0 TB and replace it. There's one member on here who has done so on his 2.7. I don't think he dyno'd the results but theoretically it would give you more air intake... The US 2.7 runners and heads are smaller anyway, so I don't think it matters that much.
