AFR Meter O2 Harness Routing - 911SC

I'm installing an AEM AFR meter. I'm assuming the O2 sensor end of it needs to end up in about the same place as the factory O2 sensor mount. I can probably figure this out, but to save time and potential headacheshHave any of you guys found the best cable routing for something like this?

The meter itself is replacing the clock.

I ran the cable into the cabin with the main wiring harness. Comes through the wall behind the feet of the driver-side rear passenger. Then under the seat, up to the frunk with with the footwell blower ducting, connect to power, and then run back through to the dash. Plenty of cable included. I also replaced my clock with the meter.

if you have the 11' lead lines there's not an inch to spare really. I ran mine thru the tunnel using zip ties to secure it to the speedo line that also runs thru there. tied it off at the shift couple access, the shifter opening (shifter was removed) and again up front just before heading it up into the trunk thru the speedo rubber grommet.

This is what I did. I still need to extend the wiring harness a bit because it's not quite long enough to look clean. I mounted the gauge next to my volt gauge where the ashtray should be.

I got it to the clock hole, barely with just enough slack to be able to pull it in & out

here is the bezel I fashioned out of laminated nylon/plastic type cutting board. fun with hole saws and belt sander using the original rubber clock stay.

Thanks for the input gentlemen!

I used the housing for an old fuel/oil level for mine. I cut an AL disc the same diameter as the housing, with a hole in the center for the AFR meter and glued that to the housing with J-B weld. After everything was painted I snapped the original bezel back on. End result looks just like the others shown here.

This thing kept wanting to capitalize the word "housing," used three times. I wonder why?

What are your header set ups and where did you place the O2 sensor?

Steam Driver 04-13-2017 08:13 AM

I can't really answer that, engine not in car yet. But will essentially where the regular O2 sensor goes.

One more thing; where is a good place to pick up switched power for the meter?

I picked it up from the fuse block ( 5 or 6, can't currently recall) and, at the suggestion of much more experienced folks here on the forum, I inserted an in-line 10a breaker.

on the collector about 5" back from the muffler flange on SSI's. important thing is to roll it so to not hang up the valve cover when removed. approx. "9:30 on the drivers side, and approx. "2:30" on the passenger. you want them off the bottom of the pipe so moisture will not settle on the sensor after brief start & sits.

So do you have 2 sensors (1 for each bank) or do you run just one?

i had bungs placed on both headers while the motor was being built plugging the passenger side one reading only the driver's side. there is a system that has sensor for each side operated by an in cabin switch and a single gauge but it was nearly $400.

much easier from the driver's side as the oil tank and related hoses on the passenger side. it can be done on either, my old racecar i wired it from the passenger but realized more access room on the driver side this time around.

sorry guys, bad info dispensed above. here is a photo of my set up, NOT 5" from the muffler flange. hope nobody drilled and welded today before my memory was refreshed.....

this is the plugged pass side.

I finished the install of one of these in my 81 SC last night. No photos yet.
My SSI's had a bong on the driver's side that I used. I dressed the harness over the trans and into the tunnel through the same opening as the speedo wires (just large enough) then up through the tunnel. My meter is in a gage pod in the ashtray location - the cable was plenty long for that. I used the white wire for the narrow band signal - I spliced inside the weather pack connector under the passenger seat rather than run the wire all the way back to the engine compartment.

I just had one quick test drive last night but it seems to work fine. A bit out of the line of sight, I may move it if that bothers me.
