Lower dash trim
Hi,
What is a typical upgrade on a old tired lower dash trim for our cars? Anyone have any pictures to share? Is there a kit that someone sells? Thank you.

Are you talking the knee pads? Can you post a picture? Those are replaceable.

I am resurrecting this thread as I would like to know the same thing. Basically my ashtray bit the dust and I need to fill the gap so is there a solid one piece lower trim I can put across and remove the rest of the trim?

I still haven’t done anything but definitely don’t like the factory setup.

Check out the continuous aluminum piece offered by Rennline. That's the route I had planned to go, but they don't offer a version for the 87-89 dash. I think it looks pretty good.

Rennline makes some aftermarket pieces.

^^Ditto to that, I think the RENNLINE stuff looks really good too, but I think you have to loose your glovebox. I'm not willing to give that up yet.

Maybe I was not using the correct lingo. I was refering to where the ashtray is, the vinyl wrapped lower dash, under where the accessory trim is.

With a few woodworking tools make your own. Upholster, paint or leave natural.

Those are called knee pads. They can be read upholstered. Also you can get one from an early car with the continuous one piece knee pad to eliminate the ashtray which is kind of cool.

You can also prep it and re-dye it to look brand new whether vinyl or leather. Looks the business.

I think early '69 only had the "split" kneepads that could be recovered like the earlier one piece kneepads.
I have a one piecer for my '71. |

Seems it may not fit.
Per Rennline "Due to that being a very different dash board it is very unlikely that would work!" The SWB single dash piece it fetching over $400 on ebay... does anyone have any other ideas? |

yes, buy an ugly right or left section of the kneepad from a year that will work for you, cut a section to fit that area, re-vinyl all sections to match and bolt it in.
