Cylinder Head Shop Recommendation

Hi all. Can you guys recommend a cylinder head shop that can repair cracks on 996 heads? West Coast Cylinder Heads was recommended to me but I would like to see what you guys have to say and if there are other reputable shops in the San Fernando Valley area. Thanks.

Wow, cracks on 996 heads? Sorry that I can't help you but more info would interesting to hear.

You could call Tony at Callas Rennsport for a recommendation. Tell him Wayne sent you.

Well, its an oil/coolant intermix issue and is due to hairline cracks on the heads right by the spark plugs. Very common problem with Boxsters and 996, along with RMS and IMS, unfortunately.

No affiliation, but we highly recommend TRE in Van Nuys and TLG in North Hollywood.

Probably the car has been sold a few times by now.

Very old thread, but anyway.
Those are both good shops for car maintenance, but I doubt that they have the in-house capability to grind the heads, weld the cracks and machine them back to original configuration. They would probably send them out. Try Competition Engineering in Northern Cal. or Ollies in Lake Havisu.

with all the "donated" per the insurance company vehicle value there are likely plenty of good "used", totaled 996 base model heads out there to be had. cheaper than fuchs....

ive had great experience with TRE for specific Porsche needs over the years to be sure. but a paid "please include a location, picture & price" on staff member bump of a thread this old is questionable at best, slimy at the least.

will likely be getting my second sets of fiberglass bumpers from dave for the 75 as the last pair I bought from him were plug & play on the old SC racecar. high quality stuff.

Jackie O would not even go this far Dmitry

The original post was made before Obama was sworn in as the 44th US President in January 2009 for his first term. Completed his second term. And we have now a new guy in the Oval Office. This is how late is your response.

Let me guess, a 2000 model year? The cracking has been seen in all early 996 heads but seems more prevalent in the 2000 model year. I would not trust a welded head (though many do). We choose to find a good used set to replace them.

I didn't know TRG welded up 996 heads and machined them in house....
