Flowmaster at Dunkels?
Anyone with Flowmaster mufflers going to Dunkel's next week? I'm leaning towards getting this muffler set-up for my stock 3.2, but would like to hear what it sounds like in person. (i've heard and like the recordings posted a few months back).
Jack O--did TRE fabricate the Flowmaster set up you once had? If not, who did? I live in L.A, and would like a reputable muffler shop doing this work. Previous posts stated it should only cost approx $200. total. I called Advance Mufflers in Torrance (next to Callas Rennsport), and they quoted me $400-500!! Thanks Mike '86 coupe |

I paid somewhere in the $200 neighborhood. But it wasn't TRE doing the work. It was my local muffler shop, and they're anything but reputable (their welds inspire a fair amount of chuckles). Still, if you're like me, you think mufflers were meant to be heard and not looked at. If you want the number, send me an email. They're at Venice and La Cienega.

Only $165 here
Here's mine and it sounds great. Only $165 for the muffler and labor. I painted the tips and made the straps.

I paid about $60 for the muffler, $40 for the pair of SS tips (Borla) and $100 for installation (welding, pipe, brackets, Flanges, etc.)
So I squeeked by under the $200 ceiling as well. I think you can do the same. I love mine, it is loud, but it's a "good" loud. I get allot of complements from P-heads and regular joes alike.

I this a dual in dual out muffler? Where did you get the rest of the hardware for mating up with the exchangers/headers?

For a single in dual out setup you would need a 42583 which from www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com should run about $73.
There is a dual in/dual out flowmaster, I am not sure what the part number is, but the flowmaster website or the summit website should have that part in the catalog. For a single in dual out you can get from Summit a flange to mate with the back of the rest of the exhaust, the part # is HOK-11026 I think, $25. Then you need some pipe assuming you aren't going to have the shop make the pipe.

Anyone cap off the passenger side outlet from the muffler, essentially making it a ONE OUT ? Would this significantly lessen the loudness? I like the tone quality, but don't want it too loud.

To tell you the truth, it wasn't loud enough. I could hardly hear the engine with the window down at 70 on the freeway.
Now I have just a pipe coming off of the Catalytic converter. It sounds like a race car, but inside the car it's definitely overly loud. My wife hasn't complained. I'm going to hang on to the flowmaster until my next inspection just in case they give me crap. As long as I pass I may sell it then. Of course I don't think I'm due until the summer, so it might be a while.

I have a Flowmaster Delta-Flow 40 Series on my 914 (carbed 2.4/four with header etc.) and it is quite loud at WOT. (Like over 96dbA most likely - haven't measured it yet). Reasonably quiet at idle and steady cruise. The carbs are actually louder, I think.
Would probably sound nice on a 911 motor... One other point is that relatively few neighborhood muffler shops work with stainless. If you want SS pipes bent and welded, be sure to ask the shop beforehand when you're calling around if they do stainless or just mild steel, and make sure they have the right tubing and flanges on-hand before you drive over.
