Clutch Pedal Shaft - will a '78 shaft work on a '76 911?

I'm going to rebuild my pedal cluster and wanted to replace the pedal shaft in the process.

I could buy the 1976 shaft for $108 or I could buy the 1978 shaft for $47. The 1978 shaft looks the same as the one for my 1976. Does anyone know if the 1978 shaft is compatible or are there differences between the two?

Thanks!

matt! good to see yir still at it my old friend!

as I recall it's one of those adjustable ball & socket at the bell crank and the other end is a ball you press into the back of the pedal?? no reason to replace that if I'm on the right track. remove it, clean it up, put a dab of grease on both ends of the shaft's ball & socket, reinstall.

toby

Toby! Great to hear from you! I still remember the "female advice" you gave me right before my junior prom . Can you believe it's been 12 years since then??? How are you buddy?

I want to replace it because I believe it is causing premature wear on the roll pin. As you can tell from the photo, the hole in the clutch shaft has been abused and is definitely the wrong clearance. I think that's what's causing the roll pin failure.

I'm good matt, underway with a 75 911 project currently after selling the spec car a year & a half back. my description was for the gas pedal, not too familiar with the clutch side down there.

look me up on FB as ive documented my current project there. stay well my man!
