Spray / brush epoxy coating for oil tank?
Hi. Who here has actual knowledge/ experience in putting an epoxy (or better materials?) coating on the exterior of an oil tank? We have a specially modified one that needs to have that extra layer to seal it up
thanks for sharing !

After getting my blasted & ultrasonically cleaned oil tank back from Pacific Oil Cooler Service, I brushed a few coats of POR15 on one of mine. The consistency is thin enough that even brushed, it lays down flat w/out brush marks. It is shiny though... When installed, the tank doesn't see any direct sunlight, so I didn't topcoat it with anything.
There are lots of differing opinions about POR15 out there, but in that instance for me, it's worked out great - super durable so far. Tom

Powder coating is pretty slick. As Tom says you don't see it, so...............overkill?
The coating place can tape it off where you don't want the coating. Better yet, get some of their tape from them and do that part yourself if they guide you. I like POR15 but have not used it enough to say I swear by it.

I cleaned mine down to bare metal, prepped it properly and brushed on two coats of POR15. It's as hard as nails.

I am stripping mine now and I am just going to clear it. I like seeing the brass neck and the welds.

Powdercoat can't touch DuPont Imron for tough. Hard as nails and sticks forever. Why they use it on bridges.

Hi Dave,
I use a catalyzed epoxy primer on mine and then cover with a Satin black paint. Works great!
