79 defroster wiring
After removing the rear window, I noticed the wires all removed from the window trim and clipped at the base where they go through the engine firewall.
Does anyone have a picture of the proper way to wire them? I have read some conflicting posts. Does anyone have a complete set of wires that they would be willing to sell ( perhaps in a track car conversion the rear glass was changed to lexan?) Thanks |

I think the '79 and '84 have the same wiring for the rear defog.
Look at the elements embedded in the glass to determine which is 1st stage and 2nd stage. I think the 1st stage would be the group of elements lowest in the glass and the 2nd stage the remaining elements. Here is the '84 schematic. ![]() Getting the wires into the groove of the rear glass rubber and cutting a hole for the wires to exit the rubber and then through the firewall can be a trick. Someone on the forum should have the wiring harness. |

Hey,
Took these photos while I was disassembling mine. The car is a 1980 US model. Hope you can use them. Regards, Ulrich ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Does anyone know the recommended gauge for the wires to the defroster?

14 AWG is the closest to the metric wire size originally used.
