Wiring gurus - Help identifying this Relay
http://i.imgur.com/7UWh20p.jpg?1
The one on the left is the flasher unit. But the one on the right? Both are near the bulkhead, not on the relay box. http://i.imgur.com/POHgI2Y.jpg?1 Also found this guy - not original Porsche obviously but this is wired inline to my power windows. Is it a fuse? Someone rewired the entire power window circuit and all the power goes through this thing. If so ill just remove it and run it through the original fuse box. Thanks |
What year are we talking about?
|
Bottom photo looks like a circuit breaker.

Headlight flasher change over relay.
The relay socket on the right is the headlight flasher change over relay.

Jeff - etiquette calls for identifying the model of your car, and for good reason. In this case, also identifying whether you are talking about stuff under the dash, in the engine compartment, or, as is likely, in the trunk or behind the dash up front.
Gerakroo sounds like a guy who knows a whole lot more about all the 911 wiring harnesses over the years than the average owner - which is great, but you can't count on someone with that much very specialized knowledge reading every post. For a guy like me to make an intelligent answer, I'd have to get out the wiring diagram for the appropriate year, and then use the wire color codes to identify the relays. Without knowing the year, I'd never bother. It seems like it would be worth your while to get access for a wiring diagram for your model, given that a previous owner fiddled around with the wiring, which you are now trying to understand. You may find some more surprises. |

But as Walt mentioned, Post the year of your car when asking questions. |
Oops! Sorry my bad. I don't know how i missed that - its a 1974 911s.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I managed to source the schematics through someone in the forums - Ill dig a bit deeper myself. Just trying to understand and label everything incase something goes wrong in the future. Never heard of a "Headlight" flasher change over relay before - what is its function? |
The lower one is probably a auto resetting breaker, it trips off then resets once it cools. Probably put in when someone had an issue with the power windows.
I've seen them in a house charging circuit on my RV. |
