Finally when the day comes that my 911 will be ready to drive again after a lengthy engine repair, I would like to drive it on a daily basis. This means that I will need a child seat for my beautiful 9 months old daughter!
I have checked several seats, but non sofar fit into the back of my 911. So the guy from my repairshop asks, why not a Porsche seat?? Basically I never thought about that since I simple assumed that it would be terrible expensive,.. not! Just the same price as any other "normal" seat. Cool, so I order one! Well now here comes the question. Does any of you have any experience with a original Porsche Child seat and can you post perhaps a picture? Does this seat also fit into other cars? Appreciate the response! Joris |

There is no hope of having a forward facing child seat fit in the rear seats, but it will fit up front.
Only rear facing seats will fit in the back seats. Which your daughter will need to be 25 pounds + for her to use. At 9 months this should not be a problem..? My 5 month old is weighing in at 22 pounds now so I hope by 6 months she will be 25 pounds so we can have a "family" car 911 ![]() There is also some length criteria too, but I am not sure of the numbers, most people just go by weight. I could not get the link to work to view that product. Good Luck!, ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

Okay the new link works, thanks.
The baby product is nothing exciting, just go to Babies R Us and get whatever forward facing you want. The toddler rear facing seat may be useful if the generic seats do not fit... Need to try mine... Then again a Dremel tool could cut down a generic seat to fit probably ![]() I am sure the "Porsche" baby seats are not a cheap item. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

Hey, Pillow, according to the charts, your child is in the top 1% of all children for age/weight. He/she must have been big to start, no? My little guy is 2 years old, and weighs in at 30 lbs. He is a little bigger that most kids his age (daycare, etc.) in height. I have 2 friends with kids that are 5 months old, and neither of them weigh more than 18 lbs. Your food and clothing bills must be growing each month.

Thanks, thanks,
Will have a look at two different seats today. One is the blue seat that is apparently already available for some time and the other one is a new seat that will be released next week in more pleasant colors (black&grey)My mechanic ordered both for me to have a look at. Will make some pictures and post the info. Both seats will face your child to the front with the seat in the back! Kees thks for the address, Joris |

Just got back from the shop and one of the seats is in. It is the older one, blue with nice yellow puppety drawings on it. Forgot to bring my camera. Will do that next time when the black seat is also there.
Installation is quite easy: Can be installed either in front or in the back seat. Child is facing forward. There is a special table like part that is going over the child in the chair and over that the single saftey belt is attached. (Sounds perhaps not quite clear but that is the only way I can explain it). Price of the seat is very reasonable: DGL 260,- ex. VAT (that Dutch Guilder) is approx 110 US ex vat (19% here in Holland). The black and grey seats is apparently very new and will be shipped out next week. As far as I know these are the only original porsche seats, so no leathers am afraid! Learned that the seats can also be found on the Porsche pages (Tequipement section) however that is being up-dated at the moment so there is nothing to be seen yet. Just to be clear: In Holland we use the general rule that children under 9 months are in special baby seats (facing to the rear) also known here as fi maxicosy's. After nine months the little ones go in to sort of baby recaro sport seats that are facing forward. It will have something to do with weight, but perhaps also with the ability to sit straight up for some time! |

I researched the options as well. My little guy Justin wanted to cruise. (10mths) So anyway, I waited until the doctor gave the green light for forward facing the magic 20lbs mark. And reserched high and low for a good solution. I came up with the Century Next step se. It has a narrow base which fits nicely betwen the bottom seat bolsters, also bought a rubber seat protector. Great seat easy install relatively inexpensive and highly rated. May even fit in rear havent tried. Not to forget to mention that when installed it makes my car look like it have new style sportseat!!!! lol. Get some odd looks cause so many assume that my car is newer then an 88 and think that Im nuts airbag issues etc. Now I just have to wait for him to get alittle bigger so we can cruise side by side. Some pics of the little guy.

Last night I spoke to my wife about this topic and she corrected me on a few things...
Once your child is 25 lbs. they must go into the next size of child seat. This child seat will be something called "convertable" where it can still face rearward until the child is one year old then switches to forward facing. Apparently the one year mark is the key (US standard versus European?) not weight... I think because of neck/head strength more than anything else. Excellent pictures Type930! Thanks for sharing. Adrian- I know its not wise but your wife is incorrect and you may want to correct her wearing full body armor of course. Think about it, time is a gauge not an absolute, when talking about a childs growth. The standard rule of thumb is three fold. As told to me by my Doctor. One is weight 20lbs other is height many of the seats have a minumum 27" requirement. Also the key factor is if the child can sit upright and hold his head up. This is what I spoke in detail with my doctor which dispeled the common myth about the one year mark which my wife also thought was the case. The doctor did say that some people prefer the rear facing until one year for comfort of baby on longer trips, but lets be honest no kids gonna fall asleep in a 911 =)Regarding convertible seats the one I choose is not convertible in the sense you mention. But is convertible from toddler to a booster, covering the weight range from 20-40lbs with harness and up from 40-80 lbs as a booster. Maybe the spoke via the secret female worldwide bathroom network communication system.

Hi guys,
Just got my 911 back from the shop after engine overhaul! Am still breaking in the engine but am already impressed with the smoothness of the engine. Further more I also have now the original Porsche solution for having your young one with you in your 911. And as said before the price is not that bad! This is the latest baby seat, Porsche released it just two weeks ago. It does not differ much from the previous one (which is still available) it's only the color that is more, let's say neutral! (the former one is light blue with yellow baby things on it) Anyway, this color does not only match better with my SIlver anniversary 911, it seems that my daughter likes to have the car back and seems quite pleased with her new seat. (Btw today was her first drive ever in a Porsche, quite a milestone ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://www.angelfire.com/bc3/joogie/index.htm |

Gotta say, that Porsche baby seat doesn't look like the most comfortable thing in the world for the kid!
Looks like a torture device, the "Cloth Cross" maybe?!? |

Almost all baby seats and boosters (for children up to 40 pounds) that I've seen, come with a 5-pt. harness to hold the shoulders in place during a crash. That seat from Porsche does not appear to have a harness. I wonder how they managed that? I, too, am looking for a seat that fits my car and my son (2 years old and 29 pounds). Lance.

Really apprecaite the ideas on car seats that you have all shared.
I recently bought a 1991 Carrera 2 convertible and am having the same problems as to finding good car seats for the back given the size of the seat and the fact that it only has a rear lap belt. Age of kids are 3.5 (wt 37lbs) and 7 (wt50lbs) Older girl would only need a booster seat to raise her up. the seat I saw in one of the pictures I have not seen in the USA so wonder if it is only available in Europe?? Hope you guys can help |

I would think your 7 year old wouldn't need anything at all. Doesn't the rear seat on a '91 have 3-point belts? The rear seats strike me as the perfect size for a kid 5-12 or so (depending on hight/weight). My almost 5 year old could ride in the back without a booster (he's big for his age though). The front seat is also so far back that he has a reasonable cushion in front of him in the event of a crash. The 3.5 year old probably does need a seat though...

I am not sure if the seat is only available in Europe, you have to checkout the Tequipment 911 section of the official Porsche Us site. At this moment, I just checked, it is still closed due to updates. If you check the German site for instance you will find the child seats. THey have seats for different ages/weights.
![]() By the way, the seats I have fits perfectly in the back seats of my 911 and the price is actually quite reasonable! ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://www.angelfire.com/bc3/joogie/index.htm |

I just bought a Century Breverra Classic Premiere from Toys are Us for my 2
year old. They are forward facing and are rated with a 5-point harness for 20-40 lbs and up to eighty with a lap and sholder belt. I have a 1990 C2 targa with dual airbags so the front seat was not an option. I took back seat measurements and scoured all the baby stores before I found this one. It fits the best in the rear seat - cost was $45.00, Good luck! Jeremy Dixon 1990 C2 Targa |
