Replacing Rubber Seals
 

Hi All,

A few of the rubber seals on my Targa are in desparate need of replacement. Has anyone done this themselves?, I need to replace numbers 3,4 & 5 on the diagram below:

Do the seals push into channels on the body or are they simply glued on?

they're glued with 3M black weatherstrip adhesive.

This is a huge undertaking that is both expensive and involved. You don't say what year Targa you own, and that matters. '90 and up are catered to with seals that fit just fine. Prior versions of the beloved Targa must use the later seal with modifications.

Your side seals may or may not need the lipped version of the seal; again depends on your model year.

Yes, the seals are both fitted into the slots provided on the car and glued as well. You may also find that you must replace item number 7 in the diagram in order to match the "new" thickness of the the seal item number 3 (again, the later '90-on seal requires this).

You should also become familiar with your Targa top. How does it look? Any noise? You'd do well to recover that top as well (you can do this yourself, about $175.00 in parts for double-thickness headliner and vinyl top material plus new rear pin covers and possibly new front pins).

There is much to be found using the Search function on this board. Poke around and read everything you find, studying all diagrams. It is a big task but the dividends are quite worth it.
