Question regarding tail lamp lens gaskets
I am in the process of replacing my tail lamp lenses with Euro lenses. The original gaskets look pretty rough and as a result, I plan to replace them. They look as if they are glued in place ? Any tips on how to remove them without destroying the lamp housing ?
I assume it is necessary to glue the new gaskets ? What should I use as far as an adhesive ? Thanks, Ron |

3M 8011 Black Weatherstrip Adhesive works very well on those gaskets. Get some 3M Paint Cleaner along with it at your local automotive paint supply store ... to clean up afterwards with, and you won't have to worry about harming your paint cleaning up the bits of adhesive that squeeze out after the lenses are tightened down. Clean it up before it hardens!

I replaced the lenses and gaskets a year ago or so on my 1987 and hope to never do it again. What started as a Friday afternoon project took until Sunday to complete. I tried to remove the entire unit rather than just replace the lense. Dumb idea. The screws stripped and replacing them was a nightmare. The new seals are larger than the original but I figure in about 10 more years they'll settle in. Hopefully.
