Narowbodying an SC/Carrera?
Backdating is a much common classic by now.
Mostly a SC, Carrera and even 964 are used as basis.... but all (at least) most end up widebodyied as RS/ST clones. As I just LOVE the narrow bodies like the famous R, I was wondering if it sounds good to you to narrow an SC..? Would one encounter "problems" with the trailing arms/the axle width to run 6x15s/7x15s? What else I do not think about being problematic? Has anybody done that yet? (no luck searching)

The wide bodies are functional upgrades that allow you to run more rubber and even increase the track a bit which makes the car handle better. To take an SC and remove some of that capability by narrowing it will make it a less competent car.
The R was made when Porsche hadn't yet realized the benefit of going wider; when they did, they never looked back. Not sure what the point of that exercise is except pure aesthetics. |

Keep the SC flares or even go wider. Go long hood and do the other stuff but not stance.....if you want the look buy a 73 or earlier tub. Or better yet, drive one and compare.

I hope this plan is for your next 911 - that SC is too nice to cut up.

Your car, don't listen to all these "don't ruin another SC" people.
It's No problem, you just neee someone that can cut, weld and paint. You can still run 7" wheels out back but may have to roll the fenders or run an aftermarket Fuchs wheel with the "r" offset or of course you could run real R Fuchs...

If you take a look at some of his threads, he has a very sweet SC. Now if he finds a 74 or other middie, I say have at it. Modify all you want. Knock yourself out.

Assuming we are talking about your 79 SC, I would say start with putting early chrome everything on the car. That is really a huge part of the early look, and be sure to include a 72-74 durant. Get a chrome decklid grill. Then look at longnose if you still want to go further. I would look at the hips last, maybe even after you convert the rear bumper.
My 74 is IB, but all chrome. The car looks older than it is. It looks more classy, IMO, than the anodized trim and black petal Fuchs. Get some chrome on the car prior to cutting off the rear flares. I have SC flares on my car. It still looks and feels narrow bodied, but I can run 8x16s in the rear even though I currently have it on 7s.

Flo, do what Matt Monson said or if you want a local to give you an answer, then go to Karslruhe and see Freisinger Motorsports and ask. I'm sure if it can be done, they can do it.

Thank you all for your feedback!
I will rethink all of that. Maybe it's better to get car No 2 and play that tune on it, maybe a simple 74-77 "S" will do the job. We'll see...

Find a SWB 912 and install a flat 6.
Nothing like the early cars. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a 912"R" with 2 liter 4. It wears 195s and will leave my 3.2 Carrera behind down the mountain. Handling is superb with stock suspension and No stabilizer bars !
