Weird problems with my 1987 911 cab

When the weather is warm I drive for approximately 2-4 miles after a cool down and it feels like I have run out of gas, but only for a few seconds then it keeps going until the next cool down and restart. if at a stop sign, engine races right before it stops . Several seconds of re-cranking gets it going again. If it quits on the freeway, I just let it coast in gear until it starts back up then I'm good until it cools off. In winter I rarely have the problem.
If it weren't fuel injected I'd swear I had just run the gas out of the carburetor.
Any suggestions very much appreciated!
Note that this problem appears to be mileage sensitive (happens after about 2-4 miles or a few ounces of gas) and temperature sensitive (only happens once after a cool down and rarely happens anytime when the weather is cold). Will run fine all day unless it cools and I restart it.

Boots here. It was the cylinder head temperature sensor. Ran good cold, ran good hot, ran BAD warm. Easy to replace if you cut the wire and splice the new sensor in. Do not worry with the upper grommet.
In a pan of hot water the old sensor responded to an ohm-meter just like the new one so don't test it, just replace it.
