1989 911 gas filler protective flap

Has anyone installed the new aftermarket version of this? Totally different than original. I am tempted to make my own based on the original. The replacement is much larger and confusing. I recognize this is a small detail but I am trying to keep everything original.

My guess is they gave you the one for an earlier car. Yours uses the 964 type. Why not buy an original?
