3.6 Conversion (day 1) how to get a 500 lb. craft off a 3 foot high truck bed.

Could hardly sleep last night, like a kid at Christmas. Ryan (Surflver) was kind enough to send an email asking how my engien drop went and asked if there was anything he could help with. Little did he know he would be on a trek to LAX through Customs, and Freight and helping me bring the new '93 964 to its new home.

The whole process took 1 hour 20 minutes from the time we picked up the papers from the shipping broker until the crate was loaded in the truck

If you have to go through customs, do it on a Saturday, and listen to the questions the inspector is asking the person in front of you. Yes Sir, no sir, yes sir, and a VERY carefully placed bit of humor made Customs simple. It was not so simple for the womon bringing in something from Morraco or the other woman importing dogs from Oz . . . they'll be there a while.

So the problem is. . how do two guys get a 500 +lb crate out of a truck bed over 3" high.

Paul - very cool! Can't wait to hear more, maybe I can stop by in the middle of the fun bits.

Finally unpacked and safely off the truck.

In the garage with a bunch of unnecessary junk taken off and other parts taken off and modified. It just looks fast doesn't it?

I was hoping that we wouldn't be able to get it out!

Unfortunately for me, the idea of me driving home w/ Paulís new engine in the back of my truck really got him thinking creatively. It was pretty funny for a while. When we pulled up to his house we had no idea how we were going to do it.

He even let me wrench on it w/ him for a while! It was a very successful day.

Congratulations on the beautiful engine Paul!

Since Iím sure Paulís out in the garage staring at his new engine, Iíll jump in.

Yep, it came in from Germany last night.

And Paulís comment about well-placed humor w/ the customs guy was an understatement. That guy wouldnít recognize humor if it fell on him.

Yep, that crate looks very familiar. Harald at work. My crate doubles as a storage bin and work bench in my garage. Couldn't bring myself around and hack it apart. I can see how you (Paul) must have felt going to pick it up. It was the same in my case. I almost wanted to open it right at the UA loading dock....

I am glad everything went well. It seems like now I can finally get my project started since I "rented" a little space in that crate for some odds and ends Harald shipped for my conversion.

I am looking forward to meeting you guys at Dunkels next weekend.

Ingo

good job, I always like seeing a 3.6 transplant as I wait for mine to happen...should be within the next few weeks! I feel lucky that I will not have to do the work and that I have the trusted Harald doing the wrenching for me. Keep us updated on the project Paul.

What did you get Ingo? I will have to check you site again for updates I guess...it's an addiction!

993 heat exchangers, flanges, adapters and a bunch of little parts like hoses, v-belt switch, gaskets, connectors, etc. Nothing to write home about.

When are you getting yours done? But wait. It's probably snowing and raining back home so even an old CIS feels scary during this time of the year while I almost got a sunstroke today. (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Looking forward to your web page updates.
Ingo

Ingo...how did you change the interior color? Did you replace it or use a dye?

Got job getting it out.
I was going to add. To make the pushing/pulling easier. Put cardboard under the feet of the crate. We do it all the time moving big heavy stuff around the store. I use those 4 * 4 pallet slip sheets. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

Oh yeah, Congrats on the 3.6.

Paul, that motor looks huge compared to my "little" 3.0....
Will it really fit into *your* engine bay??

So what did the ramp consist of, a bunk bed matress spring board? Looks like it about bent in two. It's definitely worth the sacrafice (to us) but what did the Missus think about that? (I'm assuming you're hitched.)

So you're the one with the checkered floor! Hey, is that a mat, or painted?

Just jumped in here, so I'm assuming the 'new' 3.6 is going into your 78?
You will be really scooting with that powerplant! Aaahhh, but what about the resale value? You mean you're NOT going to keep you're car original? What's this world coming to? The Porsche police are going to come down hard on you! I may have to rat you out.

JUST KIDDING! HA!
