Has anyone in the Seattle area looked at this 930?
I'm thinking about bidding on this car and I wonder if anyone in the group has seen the car or lives close enough to go take a look at it:

125,
Nice looking car. Probably repaint, but nice color. This car probably will not bring the $30k reserve however. Ask for proof of HP? good luck

He says the color is anthracite and that it's the original color, but I don't see the color listed as a standard color for '79. He also said it's never been wrecked and the car was disassembled for painting.

Ask him what the color code is. If 956: Zinc Metallic, if 961: Meteor Metallic (Special). However, those codes are listed for '81 (zinc only) and '82 (zinc and meteor) and not before.

I've asked for the color code, I'm just waiting for a reply. This really does sound like a good car but I'm a bit concerned about the distance, it's 2400 miles from me.

I would pay no more than $27K for that car. I got my '86 with 29K miles for 32K last summer. For 2K more than his buy it now price I have a car that is 8 years newer and has almost 70K less miles.
Yes that car has a few mods (namely a K27, cams, and an intercooler), but that would not make up the difference for me. You can pick up a K27 for less than a grand and I have no idea what kind of intercooler that that is but it does not look like one of the major brands. I would keep looking unless you can get this one for cheap. Let us know if the owner ever gets back in touch with you.

Hmmm, I might be able to take a look-see, depending on where it's at. Maybe I could round up some other Seattle-area Pelicans and make an event out of it!
Just ask the seller if it would be OK to have someone local come check out the car. If so, forward (PM/email) his contact info.

That looks very much like anthracite metallic. Paint code 624. Not available from the factory in '79 unless it was special ordered. Paint code on the certificate of authenticity, if he has it, will therefore be 999.
Kind of an interesting color--sort of a slate gray with gold quartz. Looks pretty different in different sorts of light. That's the color of my '78 930 as well. Coincidentally, I live in Seattle too. Just fyi, I bought my car with 72,xxx miles on it and some of the same mods ( turbo and intercooler, no cams but Big Reds up front) in 1999 for $25,000. But that was many mods ago.... |

I've PM'd John, he says it's a very well maintained car. The only thing that's keeping me from bidding is that I don't think there's a farther place in the Cont. US from me than Seattle and I don't think I could make the final payment without seeing it in person. With what it would cost to ship it back to Houston, I figure I could drive up there, look at it, and bring it back but it's about a 40 hour drive each way.

It doesn't look like it's got a/c. The intercooler looks just like my powerhaus one which is based on the garrettson one. Sounds like a nice car with all the desirable mods.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I noticed the missing AC compressor. This means $$$ if you want to get it going again down here in Texas. Keep that in mind.

The AC was removed but he has all the parts. I've dealt with keeping a 24 year old AC system working and I don't think it's worth it so I was going to remove it anyway.
