Rear Deck Panel DIY ?

I'm in need of a rear deck panel for my 80 911SC. I can't seem to find one in really good condition at a decent price. so I was wondering if there are any DIYs out there to reupholster or make one from scratch.

I've looked for any DIY but, haven't had any luck. If anyone has done anything like this, let me know.

thanks!

Hello - I've attached a link to an older thread where someone has done this procedure. I would suggest taking a look at it and perhaps reaching out to the user(s) for specifics. Hope this helps a bit and best of luck!

I also made mine from scratch. Easy to do and depending on how you want it covered easy to upholster. Its 3/16 plywood so just a jigsaw is all you need to cut the shape. Its 3 pieces so that it conforms to the angles of the back shelf and wall.

If you decide to DIY and repair yours please think about documenting it for other enthusiasts. Seems this is a popular item to replace/repair. We would love to add your documentation to our tech article library and if we do publish it we would give you 10% off your next order with us. Details posted in the thread below. Good luck!

Very easy to tackle this project, at least for my 993. You can lose some weight as well (just two pounds or so), or opt for some dynamat and or MLV with closed cell foam. I used some very thin birch plywood. I bought an RS carpet kit from Lakewell, and will post some pics when done. I originally planned on leaving the speakers up top, but I moved them to the recess in between the former rear seats for a proper RS carpet fit. Hence the speaker hole on the top that I need to fill in.

What is the trick to getting them out? I tried removing it once and couldn't get it to budge.

AppBiz makes these too, but normally only in black. You need to call and talk to them about it, it's not on their website. The top part of theirs is fiberglass, not molded paperboard. I have one, and it is a great fit.

Mine was a custom job, using brown vinyl that I supplied. I also sent my speakers to them, and they custom cut the openings and mounted them for me.
