New tires

Just received new tires from TireRack today. They were one of the few distributors that had RE11's in 225-50-16 and 245-45-16 from my 7 & 9 Fuchs. Will get these mounted next week.

Vince

Great tires. Use them for street driving and DEs on the 911 and M3, and ChumpCar racing on the Supra.

Last I checked, they didn't have this size combo (or 205/55) in the same speed rating. Did they start making them?

I spoke to them (and Bridgestone) a while back and they didn't recommend mixing V and W rated tires.

Is that just a CYA or is there a real concern? Anyone mixed them with no issues?

George -- Bill V addressed this very issue in another email and indicated that, as long as one keeps speeds below the rating thresholds of the lower speed rated tire, all would be fine and that he's run these combos without issue.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you stay below 150. V is up to 149 and W to 168. Containing tire growth at speed is a concern. Most likely added nylon overlay on the W. Little compounding differences.

I worked tire design for years. In plant DOT testing would far exceed those spec limits before tire destruction.
