86 Carrera brake caliper markings - do these match?

Hey gang,

Since I've been chasing brake gremlins on the track, I've finally decided to rebuild the calipers and see if that makes a difference.

I bought some used front calipers from the local Porsche salvage yard yesterday, and I'm wondering if my left and right calipers are really a good match, because I don't think they came from the same car, necessarily.

Both calipers appear to be manufactured by ATE. One of the calipers has clear G 10 and G 8 markings on it (one marking per caliper half). The other has a clear G 6 and then the other half looks like it says 2 G, but I can't quite make out that marking...

Both calipers certainly look the same (but reversed - one left, one right). The only differences I can tell is that one has more of a silverish finish while the other has a gold tint to it. Also, at the bottom of one of the calipers, the casting shape of one of the indentations seems a little different. The place where this difference is visible would certainly not affect the operation of the calipers.

The other difference I noticed is that the pads I took out of the calipers before cleaning them where *very* slightly different in shape, but only at the bottom of the pads. The width of the pads and the mounting holes were exact matches.

Are these calipers compatible with each other?? Does anyone know anything about the ATE part numbers?

Since I use the car on almost a daily basis, I can't afford to have the thing apart for a couple days, so I've decided to go this route rather than just taking off my own calipers and rebuilding them. I'll probably do that in the future, so that I know I have a match, but I want to make sure in the mean time that I'm not setting myself up to have the car pull sharply to one side with these calipers.

Thanks!

Dean

I think the most important part will be if the mounting bolts are the same distance apart, if the pistons are the same size, and if the width of the space inbetween the pistons is the same. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the markings.
