Use of non-standard hardware

Hi Team. I'm working on my front brakes and wheels and thought I'd replace the crusty nuts and bolts in the process. I can't find proper spring washers. Is it acceptable to use split ring or star lock washers instead? Thanks!

Do you have any ace hardware store in your area they carry them.

The only place to buy non-original hardware.

+1 for belmetric.

Thanks guys. I ordered from Fastenal as Turbo Owner suggested. They seemed to have a better selection of yellow zinc fasteners, although they aren't necessary. I've shopped belmetric before, and Bolt Depot is good too. The one fastener I haven't been able to source are the yellow zinc socket head cap screws with the low profile heads. Stoddard has them but at a steep price. I did find them in Germany, but I had to buy several hundred, and shipping was prohibitive.

Steve,

Not sure if they have them but McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) has all types of hardware at reasonable prices/quantity.
