Can anyone explain how to test the oil temperature sender?

76' 911. Oil pressure side of the gauge works but the oil temperature doesn't. It rises slightly from dead bottom when I turn the car on but doesn't do anything after that.

I want to test the sender but I don't really know exactly how. Also, is there a way to test the gauge or a place to send it?

Thanks.

remove wire, check gauge. short wire to ground and check gauge. should be max deflection one way and min the other. if so then sender is bad.
