Is that driving or stationary? I don't get that high unless I'm sitting in traffic.

with or without ac? Seems a bit higher than I'd expect to see at that temp in drier Denver without AC running (as mine's been dead for over a decade) -- mine will go over the second bar, but only around 1/3 of the way to the 3rd bar

How's this temp gauge? Surface temp of left, front fender - car in garage, fully shaded (including car port in front of garage = more shade than typical home garage), has not been in the sun today. High was 107 humidity of 56%.

Woody, your car's oil temp gauge looks like mine (maybe just slightly higher) for most of the year around here - turbo powaaa' and a/c on high, buttofcourse.

That is the highest it's ever gotten.
Mine is usually right at the first line.

But, there is some heat warning in NY.
The humidity makes it feel like 105-110.

Sugarwood, this is after about an hour of driving in Hotlanta at night, ambient temp about 85F, and humidity through the roof as per usual here.

In the wintertime with ambient temp at 50-55F, I barely make it past the first white line (194F).

Hope you're not nervous. You shouldn't be. Ambient temp has a lot to do with it.

Whenever I get nervous about temps I look at this pic again, anything short of the second white line (248F) is "Normal".

Cheers

I chased that for a while...thought it was the a/c loading it too much. Thought it was the front oil cooler in the wheel well or its thermostat in the right rear wheel well. Both good. Installed a manual switch in the car to turn on the right front cooling fan as well as put in the BMW lower temp switch to activate that fan.

Still had the issue. Replaced the engine mounted oil cooler and it fixed it...nice and cool into the 90s and low 100s...oil temp around 205F

I drove to work yesterday and the temp gauge was in the usual position.
Slightly below the first line (194*) when the temp was 65*

On the drive home, the temp was around 80* with 50% humidity.
On the highway, it was exactly on the first line.
Near the end, after a little stop and go traffic light driving, I noticed it was riding above the first line again.
Is this normal? I don't remember seeing it go past the first line when it's only 80* out.

I get that temp (first pic) when it's above 90 and a/c is on.

I get the one above when it's 70s or 80s and it's a 15 minute drive.

Engine temps...........

I don't have a picture, but my SC generally runs between 190 and 210 degrees F. Running the air doesn't seem to make too much difference. Here in South Georgia the ambient temps usually run between 90 and 100+ all summer and into the fall. I do have a large Setrab brand cooler mounted in place of the trombone cooler but I seldom feel the need to turn on the fan that blows thru it.

Does anyone have the part number of the BMW switch mentioned here? I've seen it referenced in several searches, but I have not seen what part number to actually order (it activates the front fan at a lower temperature than the stock Porsche unit). TIA.

I'll post mostly because I have a pic. This steady-state 45 mph or so in ~90F weather. Front-mounted Setrab cooler.
