Slate Grey 6801 in PPG paint

I've been searching the net and these forums, but with no luck:

My friend who does paint and body work uses PPG paints. I haven't been able to find a code or formula he can use for slate grey 6801 in PPG. I'm a rookie when it comes to paint, so any input is appreciated

Just as a side note and I am aware this is not what you are asking. If you are looking for the Steve McQueen's 930 slate gray it's a 356 color. Glasurit 615 Slate Gray.

It means that Glasurit 615 is a different color than Glasurit 6801.

Glasurit is your source color. The factory paint starting point. You do not have to buy Glasurit paint.

You want to find the PPG mix/blend that is the same as Glasurit 6801. You are asking no more than that, correct?

If you HAPPEN to be wanting the Steve McQueen 1976 930 Slate Gray it's Porsche 356 Glasurit 615. That's all I am saying. There is probably a PPG formula for that somewhere.

That is exactly what I'm asking, Bob. Thank you for articulating it. I like the Porsche 6801. I've been searching for it and haven't been able to find any PPG formula.

You might try posting in the Paint & Bodywork forum. Porsche962 is a guru, he may know. Although I seem to recall he is not a fan of PPG. Just an idea.

Good luck getting that color. I had three differant paint suppliers try and make it with PPG and none of them looked right. I was building a hot rod and it was for the bumpers only so I lived with it. But they all had a hard time trying to convert the formula.

No one wants to do other than BC CC.

If it's not a show car BASF LIMCO is an option.

BASF also has a single stage urethane that can be matched to 6801. This is in the Glasurit family.

I tried to use PPG also. The local guy called PPG paint library guys and they said they couldn't do it.

Actually the two paint brands are RM and Glasurit. They are both owned by BASF. Both German.
