My visit to Flat6Illumination
Since buying my 930 last September (delivered on 9/30 no less ;)) I've wanted to do something about the lighting. I live in the countryside where we have a lot of critters at night so modern lighting is a safety concern. I bought a set of retrofit HID lights from Fozzy of Flat6Illumination and installed them last month. Love the product, love the customer support but my wife didn't like the clear lenses which she says takes away from the period look of the 930.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f511775566.jpg So a few emails with Francois (aka Fozzy) made me realize he only lives 200 kms from my home. He was kind enough to invite me over to show me a few options for the lights and also have him swap the clear lenses for the fluted one. Enroute to beautiful Montreal. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...17211aba62.jpg Made it to Flat6Illumination World HQ!! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...52c292a132.jpg Fozzy starts operation eyeball change. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...742310a84c.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b4b7fca04e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...38cc3b91c4.jpg Fluted lens on left, clear on right. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c31f1f7b2b.jpg Obligatory selfie. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b514a5ed4.jpg Done! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...14f2742bf4.jpg Super pleased with the results, and many thanks to Fozzy for having me over. I'm excited about his new product that will be coming in the next couple of months. It's still in prototype stage but it will be awesome. Thanks for reading. John Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
How is that for service? I like them headlights a lot.
Tell us about performance. |
Performance is night and day (pardon the pun). There are a few reads here already about them and I'll just add that it gives the car a modern set of specs to view the road. The beam cutoff is crisp and it illuminates the road well. I have been flashed once for glare since unlike modern oem hid lights these do not have motorized reflectors for oncoming cars but I believe with some fine tuning of the aim it will not be an issue.

How do the fluted lenses affect the beam pattern as compared to the clear?

Those light look great.
Thanks for sharing, Dave |
That looks so much better. I wouldn't put the original clear lights on my car. Your wife was right. [emoji1]
But the new fluted lenses look good. May be an upgrade now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Wow- First off, your wife is absolutely a keeper. Second, talk about terrific customer service. Finally, that look awesome!

Drove around last night to aim the lenses and check the quality of the beam and the flutes surprisingly affects the pattern nominally. It's definitely not the sharp cutoff of the old one but it's only a mild haze around the edge. A fair trade off. I'll try and snap a pic tonight if I can sneak away. ;) 1987 930 Guards Red |

Big improvement. Tempting upgrade now.

I find that in something outrageous like an RWB or Singer, the clear lenses suit them. For my otherwise stock looking 930, these are perfect.

Yes, Fozzy's headlights are great! What a difference in the rain at night.
May not be period correct but they've sure cool. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1493695612.jpg Johan |
Very cool - Francois has been awesome, sending parts back and forth free of charge and taking the time to help ensure I was 100% satisfied.
I'd say the lights are mandatory. I don't think I could go back to a H4'd 911 for nighttime driving after acquiring these... https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...88&oe=59ADB736 |
Hello All,
Can anyone that has installed these Flat6Illumination LED headlights confirm if the 2 screws at the "4 O'clock" and 8 O'clock" positions affix to the tabs inside the headlight bucket? Or, Is it only the screw at 6 O'clock that is used to affix the projector to the headlight bucket? The installation instructions imply that the 4 & 8 screws are for light alignment and the 6 is for affixing to the bucket. I have sent a message to Francois too but I thought I would check with others that have installed these lights. Chris |
I really dig the look of those lights. I think they are much better looking as stand-alones than having a 911 with fogs bolted to the hood. They look sweet.

I dig the fluted look better too! It looks awesome!

Yeah, the fluted lens looks better from the outside but does reduce the useable light on the road a bit.
And not to get sidetracked too much, what colour is this, Signal Orange? Looks great! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1493695612.jpg |
I purchased a set of lights from Francois. Great customer service, great product, and a fair price. I need to get my car out of a sub-freezing garage to get some photos up here.
