Oak Green Metallic Question: Are codes 265 and L22 visibly different?

Hi, I am trying to get a correct code to repaint my 79 SC.

The internet says that 265 is correct for 78-80 and L22 is correct for later cars.

My painter says that the codes are likely the same colour, and that the actual shade that we get will vary between paint manufacturers.

We have painted a sample in the paint he sourced and it is noticeably lighter than the original paint on the car, which is a beautiful dark green, almost black.

So my question is, were the later Oak greens visibly lighter? Any other advice welcome.

Did you happen to take a picture of the spray sample holding it up next to your car? A friend had that color on an SC and it is very dark..

Finally got a very telling picture - we resprayed the bonnet (it needed repairing anyway) with a supposedly colour matched shade.

It is thru an SLR which changes greens, and through plate glass - still, big difference!

Don't know if this website will help

http://www.elferclassic.de/technik/farben/plack-gruen.php

look for Farben (color) and Grun.
Not enough info here for me to tell a difference.
sometimes you'll get subtle changes due to age (patina)
Fixer here on Pelican showed me some differences in my cars' color between the prescribed mix and what his special camera revealed from a pic of my 30 yr old paint.

Those computer/scanner things work fairly well to duplicate any color. A body shop near here that works on everything from 356s to Vipers uses such a scanner and mostly they nail it.

Your painter is correct, 265 is the correct code 78-80, and I believe the change is due to the factory changing its "numbering" and should be the same color.

There will be some variation between manufacturers as stated due to formula.. this is a color you will have to play with a bit as you can also have variations with how the metallic lay-out.

We have a 78 Targa in this color, just painted the tub, and the first batch of paint was returned because the metallic was more silver instead of gold and it didn't have enough black. Second hit turned-out nice for what we were using it for but expect it to be a real party when time comes to shoot the entire car!

Personally, I like Spies, Glasurit and Sikkens...

I'm currently having my '77 Carrera 3.0 repainted its original Oak Green Metallic. We used code 265 and the paint being used is Sikkens.

Thanks so much guys for the helpful information. Its such a nice colour isn't it!

But this is going to be hard, with a world of variation..my painter is going to get a few different versions and spray up some test cards. I really like the near-black shade..
