waxing your rims after polishing
I see in the "polishing your rims" article that it gives the option of waxing your newly polished rims or clear coating them.
What kind of wax should I use if I'm going with that option? Regular car wax? Thanks, Adam

I like to use turtle wax black colored wax on my black centered Fuchs. Works well. Vaseline looks good too.

There's a wax specifically formulated for wheels called "Wheel Wax"
![]() I've been using it and I'm quite please. I seems to endure the heat a bit better than plain ole wax.

Mine have a extra special powdered sealer. Brake dust.

I use Wenol blue on my rims. It is a fine polish but also contains carnuba (sp?) wax, according to guy who sells the stuff.
The red version is more harsh and does not contain the wax. BTW I think it is available through our host

Am I risking anything by using regular Carnuba car wax at first and later upgrading to a "specialized" wax?
How long will the regular car wax last? Are you guys waxing over clear coats or raw polished metal?

Raw polished metal on my wheels.
The wenol blue doesn't keep the wheels from getting dirty but it helps slow down the corrosion so I don't have to polish them as often and when i do polish them it doesn't take as long when compared to regular polish like mothers or something. |

If the surface is anodized, use vaseline. If it is painted (clear coat or not), use wax. But carnauba-based waxes aren't the best choice for wheels because they're not very durable. Use a good wheel wax.

The easiest/quickest way to maintain the shine on raw polished wheels is to use "Never Dull", a chemically treated cotton wadding product. I noticed that Walmart now sells. A more aggressive polish will be necessary if the metal is not maintained.

What happens when you go to polish a waxed wheel? Do you have to remove the wax first or does the polishing remove it?
