G50 bushing Kit
I am about to install the G50 bushing kit made by Jwest . there is significant deterioration of the cup bushing so I am anticipating a real improvement. the kit also includes a shifter shaft bushing with a notch. The jwest instructions say "after bushing is installed, rotate notch to side, 3 oclock position." this is a real pain to get to, so I would like to do it right the first time. Picture in Bentley shows "Notch" at 12 oclock. when I opened up the shifter the Notch was at 12 oclock. I am inclined to go with Jwest but Bentley plus actual in car is 2 out of three against them. *additional info...I just read the official Porsche workshop manual. It says "Use low-temperature grease. Recess faces up"... seems Jwest is the one who is wrong. unless he has some special insight...

Up or the shifter won't go back in. Tight clearance there.

Exactly. The notch should be at the 12 o'clock position to so as not to interfere with the clearance of the tunnel

When I install the shifter, I lift the shift rod up with a rag looped around it and slide into the bushing from the side.

that makes good sense. especially considering how hard it was to get the shift rod back in.

![]() ![]() Sorry to raise this thread from the dead; however, I just wanted to share my graduated to those who have come before me and documented their hard work. With the help of these threads I replaced my G50 cup bushing, the front tunnel bushing, the two small grommets, and installed the JWest G50 shift coupler. I can’t believe the difference, but then again the yellow plastic repair tag (in the photos)was what was in the shifter housing taking the place of the disintegrated bushing that was at the bottom of the shifter. First shady repair I've found. This is the reason you go through every system and repair and replace as needed. |
