Speaker size for 1985-911 (both FRONT AND REAR)
All,
I followed a few thread and wanted to know what is the standard speaker size opening for a 1985-911 Coupe....I have to get a new system receiver, front and rear speakers due to previous owner blew the amp and fried the system. My car is in the shop undergoing a few repairs and want to order the times and have them on hand ready to install once I get her back next week. I know, I know...the only music I need to hear is the 3.2 but I also have to fill in the holes with speakers and have something there so I am not mistaken for a expensive fast food take out tray. |

The stock speakers in front are 5.25" if I remember correctly, but once you take the speakers out you realize the opening in the door is way bigger. Most people go with 6.5"speakers because they look about the same, but the sound quality improves significantly a that size.
In the back they should be 4x6". I went with infinity speakers, 6.5" in front and 4x6" in rear, they cost more but are well worth it. The infinities have the highest db sensitivity so even a stock head unit can drive them loud.

You’ll like the larger speakers, but be sure to mount them solidly. I used these adapters when I mounted mine.

Mine is an 88 but I'm assuming the 85 also has the 5.25" round speakers in front. If yours are square the disregard this. I bought the Infinity Reference 5022cfx. You have to trim the mounting flanges, but they fit with the factory backing plate and grille. If you don't have grilles, there is a guy on this forum who makes them. Search classifieds.

6.5 inch separate up front work well. Mine are Alpine and they came with grills. 4”x6” in back using stick grills. Don’t seem to have a pic with the finished rear grills though.

Nice set up....I see you have tweeters as well. The PO had 6.5 with separate tweeters so I am on the hunt with 6.5 with tweeters included....by chance do you have a model number for your speakers?
