Fire Extinguisher Mount Suggestions

Do you have any suggestions for a good fire extinguisher mount?

Anything good but not (too) expensive?

Also, any suggestions on the type of extinguisher?

I want to be in good shape for a DE and safe in case something comes up on the road.

Thanks.

Lawrence

Brey Krause has a pretty nice mount that attatches to the front of the passenger seat and keeps the extinguisher out of the way but easy to get to.

As for type of extinguisher, if you really want to put the fire out an ABC rated dry chemical is what you want. If you just want to feel warm and fuzzy about having an extinguisher and can't stand the thought of creating a mess go for a Halon or Haltron type. They promise no mess, but don't do near as good of job at extinguishing a fire.

Here you go ... $10.00 dollars on Ebay for the Amerex twin strap bracket and $100.00 for the 5lb Halon bottle ...

Cheers !

i like the bk mount and have 2 of them. quick easy access but not in the way. i've actually received a lot of compliments on having an extinguisher in an old car by car lovers and those regular folk. this is the power seat version in my sc with 993 power seats.

i'll be installing my manual sport seats in the spring with the other version, but they are basically the same thing.

So how did you mount it? I think that's a great place to mount it but what did you mount it into?

I have the BK mount in my car and it works great. I have seen a Halon extingish a bad motor fire and it put the fire out quickly with little mess It takes the oxygen out of the air and smothers the fire, but they have to be used correctly.

I'm curious about this. Can you not just go by the rating?

I've used co2 and dry powder on the same fire. The dry powder was more effective and easier to use than the co2. That said, I'm sure halon and halotron and co2 extinguishers are all worth carrying. Just have to be very careful about how you deploy that 5 second burst.

Rallye fire extinguisher : last three times more longer than a classic extinguisher , CO2 , pyrotechnic starting so no durability limits.

Tested in real conditions and really approved .

Where do you get that and how does it work?

I keep mine in the glove box. Yup, it's a small sized one that chainsaw users have on their belt. It blasts as far as a regular one but doesn't go for as long, but in my experiance with fires is it's all over in seconds - if you have an extiquisher

This fire extinguisher starts with a pyrotechnic system : you pull off the black cap and scratch it under the other side : the CO2 comes out during more than 3 minutes.

No residues or dirty traces , unlimited guarantee ,without any expiration date , international patented.

Most of our member's forum have one in the glove box.

You can order this fire extinguisher here : http://www.mangiafuoco.it/fr/home.asp]Mangiafuoco

For having used many times "classics" extinguishers , i can say there is no doubt for me : i choose definitively this one.

Hi Lawrence,
I'm using a Steel hand held extinguisher filled with AFFF. This is excellent for use on textiles and flammable liquids.Fixed in front of the passenger seat using aluminum brackets and stainless steel quick release clamps

HJT911, that looks a lot like the 5lb C/o2 I have. Where did you get the quick straps?
Thank

I have the BK mount also on the passenger seat in my SC with manual seats. The extinguisher does not affect the passenger at all. I have had the Halon type for many years. I do not have a suggestion on what type currently to use.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

I got an ABC that came with a mount / quick release from jeggs. I bolted it to a self-made replacement (thick) metal plate to replace the aluminum tunnel cover, which is on the tunnel between the rear seats.
