Will turn signal boxes for 65-68 work in a 69-73 backdate?

I am backdating my 1985 to a 1972-ish:

Currently I am hunting for front turn signal boxes to fit my 1969-1973 fenders. I was wondering if I can widen my search to include the earlier 1965-1968 turn signal boxes. Will they fit the 1969-1973 fender and front end the same? Are the screw locations the same? Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Mike

Anything can work given enough time, money and MIG.

Can you'all be a bit more specific about why it won't work? Is it purely the envelope dimensions (earlier being shorter or narrower) or fastening locations? This is a backdate and I do have some leeway here on making things work. Thanks.

Completely different. SWB are completely self sealed units. Later units have removable lenses. The fender recesses are complete different too. Just Google some pictures.

I think if you installed SWB (early) fenders it would be an option, but I think the shape and way they mount is different enough that you wont want to mess with your $2800 OEM fenders.

What I did to save money was post a WTB add for some rough/corroded damaged TS housings, got them fit up, paint wiring etc. Got the car on the road and then changed them out later to nice ones.

I dotn want to suggest the repro TS housings because I hear they do not fit like OEM, I know the lenses dont. But that may be an option.

With the investment you have in those fenders I think you have get the "right" TS housings.

They will not work without a lot of modification, especially to the front. First of all the fronts are shorter than the LWB signal housings, that is why the horn grills are longer. Although I think dimension from stem to stern is the same distance. I think you could get some SWB boxes from Resto design and weld 'em in and make 'em work. Don't forget to get the SWB horn grills to go with 'em. I'm pretty sure the rears are the same dimension, just weld in the SWB box. Wiring is another issue.

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate the responses. I will rule this out from consideration. I already have the new fenders and the AFS grills, so I will keep looking for some niece correct turn signal boxes.
