Epic road trip or crazy idea? 911sc from AZ to WA and back

Going to my 30th high school reunion at the end of July, Bainbridge High School class of 87. My wife can't go so I was going to ride my motorcycle but I have never taken the 911 on a long trip. The plan is to do a loop one way inland one way on the coast avoid interstate highways drive scenic roads enjoy the drive. My father is flying down from Seattle to do the drive with me, my wife thinks we are crazy.
The car is a turbo look 1982 911sc with a 3.2 and no AC, I have owned it for 15 years. So am I crazy?

How many miles on the original engine?
Rebuilds?
Get a complete service and evaluate results.
Seems that is a less than 5,000 mile trip.
There are many Porsche repair shops along the way
not to mention this forum to direct you if you need help.
Do it !!

Sounds like fun to me! And a great future story to share with others. I say why not? I posted some good threads below with some info on what you should bring along with you on your journey. Be sure to post pictures and share with us if you decide to do this!

What tools/parts should I have in my car at all times?

Your top ten tools...

My '86 carrera is a daily driver with 180k miles on it - since it's sorted out and I rely on it on a (nearly) daily basis, I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a 5k trip.

OTOH, I'd have a LOT of concerns/reservations with taking a car that I didn't otherwise already trust/rely upon on a trip like this.

Sounds like a great trip to me. Take some oil, tools, and an extra fan belt, just in case. Safe travels and enjoy the ride.

The issue I see is no A/C in the summer thru the southwest.......other than that what BBTURBO said. Check the car out well before hand.

Just make sure to avoid transitioning through Portland or Seattle during peak traffic hours.

When I lived in WA state, I took many 2-3 week trips to SoCal and then into the desert before returning to WA state almost always in Jan in my 85. Had to be careful to avoid the passes when snow was accumulating and on occasion there would be a mx issue (starter, alternator). But it was always an adventure and the car just ate up those miles.

Get your mx up to speed and go for it Chris.

Leave early so you can have issues and not miss your reunion, have your AAA membership up to date in case of major issues, pack what you can for any minor issues then enjoy the trip and have at it!

Maybe have a shop take a quick look up on the lift, then change the oil and off with you. Have a great trip! Safe travels. Franny

If it is a sunroof car, roll down the windows part way and you have plenty of airflow. Sounds like a great trip.

No air? Take the motorcycle. We used to play Bainbridge in high school football. Might have been called North Kitsap then...I was a few years before you. Quite a few. Enjoy.

Car is mechanically sound, top end rebuilt about 25,000 miles ago. I carry basic spares, tools and oil, should get a fire extinguisher. No AC will be the big issue I think.

DO IT - Don't forget the cooler. I always freeze bottles of water, keeps everything cool and by the time you hit Palm Desert they will be halfway melted and perfect to cool you down. I have made this trip with a no AC Pcar. Get your music lined up, as others have said AAA, some tools, couple of cans of fix a flat" Just in case", jumper cables, oil changed - it will be a blast!!

You will create great memories - I am in Bay Area / NO CA, if you decide to make the trip, PM me and I can give you my cell # in case you need help / parts etc. while in my area.

Photos along the way is a must for us stuck working!!

As a side note-

if you plan on taking Hiway 1 for any part of your trip, the section north of Big Sir is closed due to land slides
