993 oil leak - expert advice needed

Hi

I live in the UK and have a RHD 1996 C2 manual varioram - the engine has always been as dry as a dog biscuit with no oil leaks. Unfortunately yesterday I noticed that there was some oil leaking- not much-but it was a new leak so a bit worrying.
After a good run when I get out of the car I can smell burning coming from the drivers side rear wheel arch but I have no idea if this is related to oil dripping onto exhaust system etc.

I did clean up the oil before taking these pics -but this is the part......

This is where the oil is seeping out-

Just under the 3 dots-

Without wishing to sound thick what actually is this part? It's at the bottom of the varioram ........is it a serious issue to rectify?

I did notice on the right hand side there's some thread showing- is a nut missing?

Any advice very much appreciated- thanks in advance....

Hi..the nut or bolt you ate missing is for an air condition compressor bracket .You do not have one.
The oil leak looks like engine case trough bolt o rigs could be your culprit.
To see it better i would remove the alternator from the housing and peek inside.
Not to worry much about this ....unless it gets bigger
Also have a look under the engine on this location...there could be some wet spots too.

Also check the bottom centre of the varioram, sometimes leaks develop at the flap valve housing, and oil pools at that spot within the varioram and then drips down onto the case through the leaking valve and makes quite a mess.
