My car BIT me!!!

Driving to work with targa top off, this being Seattle, it of course started raining. I pull into a quicky mart parking lot and whip out the folded top, pulled the cross members into place, and it PINCHED A CHUNK OF SKIN FROM MY LITTLE FINGER!:eek:

In my hurry I was holding it by the hinge. Targa owners out there, beware! Went to my doc and he applied silver nitrate to cauterize the wound, which stung like hell causing me to say a word starting with "F".

Then to top it off on the way home I saw the piece of skin in the hinge, yecch!

Car was in doghouse for a while, until I noticed how much fun it is to drive. We're good now once again although I threatened to sell it and buy a sensible 2012 Boxster Spyder. Car said it was my fault which of course it was.

Ha! I haven't done it yet, but I think about it every time those cross members snap into place...

Ha ha - love it!

PS - see, yet more evidence of a Targa's capacity for suck (hinged in the middle and a hazard to hangnails!)!!!

Now that's a cheap shot! Coupe owners are always preening about their chassis' superior 'stiffness'. Now we all know that's a compensation for, shall we say, a bit of LACK of stiffness in certain other life aspects ... :D

Yep, "coupe" is a euphemism for ----->

i did that with my big toe.

no shoes, had the top on its edge, to lazy to bend down and push the bar closed so I did it with my foot. took a huge chunk out of the bottom of my big toe.

I feel your pain brother...

Well, my car is a daily driver except when pouring rain (targa). I think it was unhappy that I still haven't installed the $2K AC upgrade kit I bought 2 years ago ...

Another reason to own a coupe :p Just kidding! I love targas too,

kach22i 06-15-2017 04:01 AM

I've had little pinches that made me swear aloud, no loss of flesh but close.

Many Targa owners leave the top in full open position behind the seats to save on wear.

I've had rubbing issues doing that so I've come up with a solution.

I'm going relocate the top of my brake booster so the top fits in the front trunk.

This may only be possible on a 1977 or earlier, single booster.

fiminod 06-15-2017 04:13 AM

Yep..been bit once in over 25 years of owning a Targa. Good news is it won't happen again...
