Can anyone remember seeing....

Hi all,
Can anyone remember seeing a post that had
An unusual monochrome floral paint job on a grey or silver Porsche. If I remember it was from an auto show in Japan. The car had flowers all over it that faded almost into the main color.

I know I will catch a lot of shade for showing interest in this much aligned paint job (or vinyl wrap), but I saw it on this forum and can't find it again. Thanks,

the Queen

Joplins 356

My chess coach (Jude Acers) roomed with Janis Joplin in San Fransisco when she was first starting out.

I realize my paisley silver and red interior is not for everyone. Here is the beginning of my interior reupholstery project. I am waiting for a sample of red square weave carpet to decide on that vs grey green sliverknit. The dash pad hasn't been sized or glued yet in this photo but will be smooth.

Lighten up, Francis. She is not conforming to your expectations.

Queenie, you go girl. I am on board fully with your expression.

I am looking for a video of an English concours judge who did not like Captain Slow's choice of dresser handles for closing the doors on his 944.

Thank you Bob, but don't worry, I can take the heat I'm a "girly girl" in a man's world. Sean's comments are not a problem, after all - I play competitive chess - not exactly a girl friendly sport. Thanks Dan and Sooner....I appreciate the support!

Personally, I am not hot on big spoilers, wide bodies and tails, however, I understand that we all have different visions as to what the iconic Porsche 911 is. For some, it is the car they first fell in love with (or fell in love in), untouched and 100% stock. For others, it something elusive...a concept or vision that has evolved over the years. For me, the key is that each of us is taking care of one of these beauties in his or her own way.

I love Fortuny fabrics...they are considered to be too precious to even upholster with. The cotton is spun and hand painted by the Fortuny family in Venice, Italy. About a year ago I was able to purchase 13 yards of a red and silver pattern from 1967. To be able to reupholster my vintage 911 in vintage Fortuny is the ultimate homage to the Marquee.

Next, I am going to figure out how to paint (or stencil) the Fortuny styled flowers onto my granite green paint. i want it to look like it rained translucent silver flowers onto my car as I was driving by.

I hope that some of you follow my journey - first time doing any of my own work on a car. I am having a blast, and creating something of my own. I wouldn't have had the chutzbah to do this 20 years ago. Please criticize my work, offer suggestions, and keep me honest...I wouldn't have it any other way...

BTW I would be willing to bet that when I am done, even the man with the stink eye will like my car...

xoxo

Have you seen the PCA video of the couple that paid an artist to paint lace on their early S?

If not, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: here's an article on the car https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2013/09/12/custom-porsche

I love the look of this. Did your search reveal to you who made this?

The execution of the silver beading is not quite my cup of tea, but I love that fabric. What are your plans (other colors, textures, patterns) for the rest of the interior?

Yes! I agree Otter....,The silver beading is sloppy right now--this is a test install of a few different techniques for the gimp to see which if any hold up to some use. Any thoughts on a better method to edge the fabric? I am surprised by how wavy the moisture has made things
I plan to use a dark red square weave carpet with dark green grey leather binding.
I am trying to figure a way to put the fortuny on the center panel of the seats without replacing the outer leather portion (that grey green leather is near impossible to match)

I plan to use a basketweave of grey, silver, and dark red leather for the front of the dash.
Any ideas to incorporate the patterns better?
I am thinking if i use a projector on the fabric i may be able to stencil the pattern onto the paint..

Puma, no i haven't heard of it but it sounds so cool..thaks

By the way, I encourage your creativity. You may already know all this, a few thoughts:

Do your materials have UV protection? If not, it won't last long. If not you can tint your windows with 3M Crystaline, you can get it so it's invisible.

Spinneybeck has the best leather but not cheap. Acqua line is UV protected.

You can make your own real basketweave with a lace cutter from Tandy leather.

Women tend to have excellent color skills naturally but it's always helpful to study color theory.

Successful pattern works best with Fibonacci theory.

Lastly, the important thing I learned in art school was "conceive of the whole".

Can't wait to see what you've done.

Thank you Puma - I was going to try the tandy self made and if it is a fail, my back up plan is Spinneybeck...their minimum yardage is fairly large for the small amount needed.
I do have a vision of the whole....it is a matter of whether not i can execute it. I usually work on people not cars
I appreciate the heads up on the UV. The entire car is UV tinted because I have a disease that prohibits any sun exposure. That is one of the reasons I am allowing myself this new indulgent hobby. It is my reward for having to give up water sports...
I am going to check out your 68 Resto - do you have a link?
