Guys
I am looking to protect my sc for the winter, underside mainly, wheel arches, etc.
I have been told to use 'TECTYL', I am having problems finding it here in u.k.
Does anyone know where I can get some or does anyone use any other products/techniques? I would be very grateful of any help or comments.

I have no idea what that is...

But if this is just a storage issue use chainsaw bar oil. It contains anti rust properties and can spray on with a misting bottle.

Old school cheapo tricks.

Tectyl is the name of the textured factory undercoating used by Paul Frere in Porsche 911 Story. I don't know if is is a commercial product or a specific process to apply the finish before painting.

Tectyl is amazing stuff. My old Toyota has been done with it, and after 16 years of being parked outside with LOTS of trips to the beach. In fact it's now parked about 10 yards from the sea now. And it still hasn't rusted where treated. In New Zealand we have various outlets, that I guess are francises or agencies, that apply Tectyl. I've also seen it recently in 1 litre spray on type cans.

It is a liquid that semi sets.

If you can locate it use it, it really is good.

Anybody have any experience with POR-15? (Paint Over Rust).Stories and opinion would be appreciated.

Since you're in the UK, why not use Waxoyl? Land Rovers use it frequently. And you know how they rust! The product works well.

If you want a German-made product, I know that Wurth makes an undercoating product.

I've also used Por-15 but not as a rust preventative, rather as rust repair.

Used Tectyl alot on Turbine Parts. It does work very well but if you ever want to take it off it is quite difficult. We used steam jet sprayers to do the job. It will stink pretty bad when you start back up if you leave it on the exhaust components. FWIW. Good Luck

78 3.0L/3.2L CIS 911SC

Tectyl is a Valvoline product. It's commonly available in Belgium, at "Auto-5" supermarket auto-stores.
I've got good experiences with it from old days, when I sprayed it on my Opel (Vauxhall) cars.
It comes in brush applicable but especially in spray cans:
clear stuff to spray in hollow spaces
black stuff to sparay on exposed areas, such as undersides and wheelwells.

I have used Tectyl on the inside of all my panels - I used the clear stuff which semi-sets - it is available in 1 litre aerosol cans.

For the underside, I used good ole trusty Waxoyl - the black stuff applied by brush - I couldn't find the heavier grade Tectyl, and Waxoyl is cheap if you buy in large quantities.

Karmann Konnection (advertises in the Porsche mag's) in Southend have the Tectyl aerosols. I don't know any high st store that stocks it.

Thanks Marcus - just ordered from KK, waxoyl is good for some areas, but I'm particularly concerned about the wheel arches/Oil pipes etc. so using tectyl on these should be better.

I've just started rustproofing a '76 911 (930). Would need some help in the anatomy of a 911 chassis... how to get access to certain places.

(1) I have been able to locate the holes from inside the front trunk ... holes like in this tub (targa80 -project photo)

- the sections look complex. Box sections here and there. Where to drill holes? or is there readily access?

Would quite appreciate any hints on access / or holes to be drilled. I am not very familiar yet with a 911 chassis and relevant sections, have never welded a 911.;)


I've so far injected Dinitrol ML (a good quality, thin cavity protection) from the holes inside front trunk area

I pour oil everywhere. Use an oil can and just go to town. pour it down the doors and everything too.

I do this on my Saab 900 convertible and it looks great after all these years.

Yes, plan is to get to doors (and back of car) eventually. :) Going slowly does not bother me... want to learn about 911 chassis structure along the way.
