How should I go about starting engine after top end rebuild?
 

Tell me how I should go about starting the engine for the first time and adding oil. Also what do you recommend for breaking the engine in? When to change oil the first time and when to readjust valves and retorque head studs?

When you first fire her up...don't shut it off for at least 25 minutes.
This will let the cam and rockers settle in.
If you shut it down too early...all of the pre-lube on the cam will be gone...so that the next time you start...the rockers will be running on a dry cam.

If really paranoid you can use a small electric pump to move oil thru the engine, such as an elec. drill based pump.

I disconnect the ignition and turn the engine over with the starter until you see oil pressure on the gauge. Then reconnect the ignition and start it up.

The electric drill won,t work on a 911, as the "whole reciprocating assembly" has to turn to get the oil pump to prime!!! The only
way is to turn the motor over with the starter!! 911s build oil pressure fast, so you really don,t have to crank it very long. The break in for just doing the heads is start it at a high idle and
go drive it for about twenty minutes between 2-3k rpm. Drive about 500 miles, change the oil, adjust valves and thats about it.
Did you replace the jugs and pistons too?
