Thermal Reactors

Hey guys! This may be a dumb question.. on my 76 911S targa, I have the motor pulled and am replacing all the seals and heat exchangers, my question is, my motor does not have Thermal reactors. Is this a good thing? (I've heard the dreaded stories!) It is a 2.7 with the 5 blade fan. The timing chain and rails and tensionors have all been replaced. Is it a plus that my motor did not come with the thermal reactors? I thought all the mid years came with them?

Thermal reactors = Bad!
5 blade fan = Bad!
These were stop gap measures to satisfy the ridiculous emission requirements at the time. Engines had to run hotter to pass the tests.
See if you can find a 11 blade fan to keep your engine cooler: forget about thermal reactors altogether.

It's a very good thing.

Why don't you swap in a 11 blade fan? It will help move more air across your engine and keep it cooler.

I am definitely going to get an 11 blade fan. I was just surprised and happy I did not have the thermal reactors!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1498248882.JPG

That was before I really cleaned it!

You can also choose to delete the air pump, air injectors and spider line. It's way easier to do it now. Are you running the smog pump up top?

The air injectors plug bolts are 10mm x 1.0mm thread

You might consider removing the air lines for the smog pump as well. They were designed to inject extra air to feed combustion within the thermal reactors. Without the thermal reactors, the air lines do not do much except dilute the exhaust gases. If they are not required where you live, removal will make access to the engine easier. I cannot see if you still have the smog pump, the absence of which makes valve adjustment far easier.

I'm guessing mine did not come with a smog pump. I think mine was a non CA compliant car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1498252705.JPG
