Post HELP! Car wont start....stuck at work!

hello,

My car wont start. Engine doesnt turn, the battery is ok. I turn the key, buzzer works, radio works, windows work, wipers, lights, etc. all work.

New starter installed at 65K miles, car now has 112K

The engine doesnt want to turn. What should I start checking? The car's a mostly stock 83 SC.

thanks in advance.

Never done this on a 911 before but it may work... First check the ignition key box, that the wires are connected well.

Get a long screw driver. Get up under the car where the starter is and jump the leads on the pos and neg side of the starter. Watch for sparks. Make sure it is in neutral.

Works for VWs, might be the same on 911...?

Or push it and dump the clutch.

Good Luck,

Mine did this just last week. I cleaned the multi-pin plug on the regulator box (left side of engine compartment with 3 fuses).

There are two yellow wires on the solenoid ... one comes from the ignition switch, and the other provides switched power to the cold-start valve via the Thermo-Time Switch.

There are two 14-pin connectors on that fuse/relay/CDI panel ... forward one comes from body wiring harness, the other goes to the engine wiring harness!

You mean the engine won't turn over? Like the starter is dead?

In a pinch, push start it!

if your starter is not engaging. tap on the starter motor with something while someone else tries to start the car.

Thanks everyone, I finally got it started about 10 minutes before the Flat Bed Tow Truck showed up.

It was sluggish but it started.
I drove it home (40 min. drive), turned it off, and then tried to turn it on again and nothing!

gonna order the ground strap and start there.

That reminds me of many years ago when I was driving around in a 1958 VW windowed micro-bus. The ONLY way to start it on level ground was to crawl under the rear and short out across the starter motor terms. I had special tool for this.. and old cutting torch .. nice n' long.. the tricky part was that the gas tank leaked at the seam and was mounted right over the engine...

Cabman, a guy with such good chick picking up skills, why don't you just go to a local bar meet someone nice and stay the night at her place.

A really simple check if you think it might be a bad ground strap: take your jumper cables and ground the engine, from AC bracket or engine mount, to some steel ground on the chassis, engine mount or bolt. If it is a bad ground the car will start normally. You can also check your battery ground this way.

good luck,
