915 Nose Cone
Hi everyone, I recently bought my first project car and have joined this forum in the hopes that I will learn something from the collective wisdom of its members.
First on my to do list is a new nose cone/shift cover for my 915/68 transmission. The current casting number on the cover is 915 301 301 6R. There’s a few on eBay, but a couple show the casting number ending 0R. Are these covers interchangeable? Thanks. |

Yeah, mine has a big hole in the side. It could probably be patched, but I’d prefer a factory look.
After further sloothing, it appears the 0R case is magnesium, where as mine (6R) is aluminum. Not sure if that’s a coincidence or not, but I can’t see any other difference. |

Aluminum started in 1978. Any tailcone 78-86 will work. Yes, mag ones will work too but many of them have a mechanical speedo gear, which makes them more expensive.
