I too am considering a Wevo or Rennshift. I have been using a factory SS with Seine gate for 10+ years. It worked very well, especially with the Stomski coupler. However, starting last year, I began to have shifting problems at DE events. Not a problem on the street, just when shifting at the track, i.e., 3-4-5 gears, @ 6K rpms. I pulled the boot off last month at Road America and noticed that the top guide plate was bent, and there appeared to be excessive wear on the tabs (both on the shifter and the plate). I attempted a trackside repair, but it still wasn't great, i.e., it would feel like it was stuck between gears on both upshifts and downshifts. Again, on the street it seems fine, even when I rev it, but at the track, it's not happy. To be fair, this may have been caused by a poorly adjusted shifter, which caused excessive wear, etc. But, the reality is that I have some worn/damaged parts now, so I need to consider a replacement.

I like the idea of the Rennshifter being an entirely new assembly. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the 2" extended shift lever? I thought this might be a little easier to reach. At 6', I find myself leaning forward just a bit to reach the shifter.

Thanks.
Roger

I've used the factory SS kit and was not happy with the experience. No experience with the Seine add-on. I have had Rennshift shifters in two of my cars and they are fantastic. I also purchased the extra-long lever which places the knob at the perfect position, IMO. No reaching.

Between Rennshift and Wevo, you are getting two great products. The differentiator for me was the fact that the Rennshift product is an all-in-one unit
and complete plug and play with no additional assembly required. With the shift kit and new bushings, you will be golden. No missed shifts and I feel the extra money is well worth it.

I have to agree, I just installed the Rennshift with the extended shifter and a Wevo SL knob, I'm 6'1" and love the placement of the shifter. I also added a 1" spacer to my Momo steering wheel. Overall better position and the rennshift shifts amazing! You can now tell what gear you're in and easily engage them all!

The hook and tab on the Seine are not as robust as the factory parts over on the right side. Id you weld, easy to fabricate something thicker and weld it in. That is what I did with my Robotek, which was the first commercial unit (maybe WEVO was first) to come up with the 3/4 plane centering (after Porsche had started doing this with its then newer 911s).

From what I know of them (largely based on reading here, but some checking things out and asking owners), neither the WEVO nor the Rennshift incorporate a system which does what the hook and tab do. The result of this is some extra whine in 1st and 2d, because the spring tension you added is taken up inside the transmission by parts which were not designed to do so. I don't think this causes wear, but it presses parts together which should be neutral, so to speak, when in gear. When I asked Hayden about this for the WEVO some 10 or more years ago, he allowed as it wasn't important.

But it was important enough to me, with my Robotek, to seld on a hook and tab, which solved things.

Porsche put those 5th/reverse tabs there for a good reason. Makes sense to accomplish taking up the sideways spring pressure in 1st and 2d somehow. Hook and tab is the most convenient, but surely if one is designing a shift tower from scratch some provision could be made.

But there are those who like their Rennshifts, for sure. I'm only 5'10", and short waisted to boot (I can still easily touch my toes despite anatomical changes due to age which should make this harder), and like to sit up pretty close to the steering wheel. So I've never been concerned about where the shift knob is.

Lengthening the upper part of the lever to raise the knob means the lower part, below the pivot, has to be lengthened as well if you are to keep the same ratio of hand movement to shift rod inside the transmission movement. Does Rennshift offer different models depending on whether you want the raised knob with or without shortening the shift throw?
