Question on shifter 5th/Reverse Tabs on Housing and Stick
Hi,
Just replaced my bushings and coupler and noticed that the tabs on the housing don't even remotely come close to the hook on the shifter. It is a factory short shift kit and I didn't take it apart, so apparently it has worked for years; is it supposed to hook over the tabs when in gear? Think so. I changed the shifter bushings and here is end result (looks the same as before I changed the disintegrated bushing)

Yes it's supposed to catch the tabs on 5th and reverse. I'd also clean up the shifter shaft too. You can see it has grooves on it from the shaft catching the reverse lock-out pawl/teardrop. That pawl tip and the shaft should have some grease on it to prevent the grooves from happening.

I suspect you have mismatched parts. Looks like you may have the factory stock shift
lever and perhaps the raised short shifter pivot piece. if so, that would explain the catch tab being too high. Check the pics of the different sticks and the pivot to catch tab distance. Only explanation I can come up with. In this pic, the short shifter stick is on the top and the short shifter raised pivot piece is on the left. Thanks so much guys, I suspected that the lever might be wrong. It has been many years since I added the factory short shift, I wonder if I mistakenly reused the original or if they put the wrong one in the kit?
Any one have a part number or any other info that will get me to the right one? -Rutager |

Just a quick partial update; I got the new kit and disassembled my old setup and here's a photo showing what I had and the new part- obviously my old shift rid was wrong.

Big thanks to uwanna for giving the pictorial differences to verify I could have the wrong shift rod in my housing.

That is the part needed for the short shifter handle, would you like to sell it?. I have a short shifter handle without the pivot.

Shipping is minimal, not something to worry about. PM your address and I'll get the parts mailed this week Sure that the box piece is it, I can't see Porsche including more than needed? The kit also comes with the top, rubber piece, springs, pin and u shaped piece. Easy enough to send everything that I removed. Rutager |

Hi Lorne,
All boxed up, should be able to hit the post office tomorrow while running around. I put the squarish piece, the yolk, two springs, pin, rubber spacer and top plate in the box. I suspect that for sure the yolk is different from stock as the shifter sits in a different plane on the short shifter. Curve of squarish piece faces up when installed. Putting it all together under spring pressure is a bit of "fun", I left the shift rod for last and put the housing on the floor and used my foot to push the plate down while keeping the springs inline with my fingers then twisted each direction so I could fit the nuts.
