Cam Line Oil Restrictors

I've done a little searching here about the Cam Oil Line Restrictors (sold here by our host)
1978 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe - Camshafts & Timing Chains - Page 2

and have a question for the brain trust.

My 1983 SC motor with 140,000 miles runs as a well as you would expect a 35 year old motor to run. Drips very little Oil, been using Shell Rotella for 5 years now. After 1000 miles I need to add 1 quart of oil. Cold on start up (idle 900 rpm) oil pressure gauge reads 3.5 bars. When warmed up (idle 1000 rpm) oil pressure reads a hair above zero but for every 1000 rpm I get about 1 bar (2000 rpm= 2 bar, 3000 rpm= 3 bar, 4000 rpm= 3.5 bar)

My Question:

Do you guys recommend I install the cam Oil flow Restrictors to punch up the warm idle oil pressure?

Thanks

I did it on my 82 SC and it increased the idle pressure by almost 1 bar.

This has been discussed a number of time on the site. Do a search.

Dieter's of San Diego did some testing on this mod years ago and I think it appeared in the San Diego Windblown Witness. It's on their website: 911 Camshaft Oiling Update.

This mod is also being discussed right now in this thread 1976 Oil Pressure .

And here is Pete Zimmerman's wiki on the installation:

Which type of chain tensioners are in your engine? Original or later hydraulic.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

Chain tensioners were upgraded to later Carrera Style, somewhere I read the upgrade can lower your oil pressure at idle.

Here is another thread I found later ...that I found of some of use

cam oil line Restrictor/Adapter

Try replacing the oil pressure relief cups and springs worked great for my 82sc. Easy cheap fix.
