Kugelfischer or Jetronic?

Hello all, I'm just educating myself and was wondering which MFI is 80's 911 fitted with? Was there a crossover period from Kugelfischer to Bosch's K-jetronic?

Thanks
Paul

No MFI In 80s road cars. Last MFI was about 76 I think. All road cars running k-jet in the 80s

Dont think Porsc he ever used Kugelfischer, only Bosch MFI. BMW and Mercedes used KF I believe some applications.

The 84 SCRS had MFI with a KF pump and High Butterfly throttle bodies.

924 D-prod aka 933 had Kugelfischer pump with its 2.0 engine, using 924 Turbo cylinder head, high compression pistons, dry sump and side exhaust. Made 180 hp.

Kugelfishcher was used mainly (or entirely?) on race models. I heard once it was because the Bosch units may have become unavailable at some point, not sure on that detail though.

For the road going 911, the factory went straight from Bosch MFI to K jetronic. Mostly in '73 if memory serves. Some of the RS/Carrera models got MFI for another couple years after that.

fyi, the Bosch and Kugelfischer MFI pumps look to be one and the same https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kugelfischer.

SCs used K-Jet (CIS), Carreras used L-Jet, not sure whether turbos got L-jet in the 80s or not.

Made me look up the sc/rs - an interesting car - really just a placeholder for the 959 if you stand back and look at it. But very cool in its own ‘parts bin race car’ way

It is Mechanical (MFI) but the 2 are totally different.

Kugelfischer
Kugelfischer is the name for a mechanical fuel injection (MFI) pump. It was produced by FAG Kugelfischer and later by Robert Bosch GmbH. Derived from diesel pumps from the early 1960s, the Kugelfischer system was the most widely-adopted mechanical injection pump for performance vehicles. It was among the first units with manufacturer-customizable fuel delivery maps which used rpm, throttle position, temperature, and sometimes barometric pressure as inputs. This was accomplished mechanically, not electronically.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, it was fitted to a variety of production vehicles from BMW, Ford UK, Lancia, Peugeot, Ferrari and others. It is perhaps best known for its use by BMW in the 2000tii/2002tii (and later, the 2002 Turbo) performance sedan from 1970-1975, the 1964-1976 Porsche 911/911S/Carrera RS/RSR/Carrera MFI, and the BMW M1 Procar from 1978-1981. Due to high manufacturing cost however, it became economically undesirable with the introduction of cheaper electronic engine management systems (and continuous-injection mechanical systems) by the end of the decade. However, the Kugelfischer system continued to be used as a specialty injection pump for purpose-built race engines into the 1980s such as the 1982 Porsche 911 SC/RS.

1. 911 Carrera ('84 - '89) - used DME (digital motor electronics), also used in the 964s & 993s
2. 912E & late 914 used L-Jetronic
3. Early 914s used D-Jetronic
4. 911 turbos thru '89 used CIS, as did the 964 turbo (965)
5. 993 turbos used DMEs
