Which one is the "can't miss" westcoast event?

Another drawback to living in the midwest, no gatherings in the scale of Dunklefest (Tweeks Porschefest, just doesn't compare).

Of all the leftcoast events, which one is THE "can't miss" gathering/swapmeet in terms of the number of early series cars in attendance? I'd like to attend at least one of them this year... just hope it hasn't passed yet! -Dennis |

The shots of the lit show and Dunkels make me want to travel West the this one. How would it compare to the Monterey weekend?

That's a tough one; I'd say a toss-up between Dunkle's, HUGE swap meet, biggest collection of cars, (rare race cars, 356s, 550s, other exotica in museum), plus most of Rgruppe is there. Toss in the Lit. show and it might be the ultimate.

The Rgruppe annual get-together is smaller and all 911s, but held in a picture-postcard location w/ impromtu canyon runs, great group of enthusiasts, very social, (it's a club and some members only see each other 1-2 times a year), sorry, but they are both "can't miss" events for those of us here.

I'd say the German Autofest would be it, unless you want to get specific about early, late, and water-cooled

![]() This will be the 3rd year. 2002 was really cool and I'd suspect it will be even bigger in 03. In addition to the huge swapmeet, there are tech clinics presented by world renowned Porschephiles. Plus, you may be able to play in the 2nd annual PokerFest at my house, meet cool folks, and lose your money to SWBSAM..... The Montery Historic races are another good bet to catch some action, but it's not Porsche only.

...and after yesterday, Dunkels clearly and decisively blows the Ventura autofest clean out of the water. No comparison in my book. None. So personally, from my perspective, if you are into Porsches in general, Dunkels is far and away the event to make. And if you are an "early 911" fan and or an Rgruppe member, the mid-coast gathering of the devoted and faithful must not be missed. cheers

Have to agree w/ John R., German Autofest was, um, 'underwhelming', (especially the swap meet), Dunkle's was sensory overload. I have been attending car shows for 40 of my 43 years, get bored/overloaded pretty quickly, Dunkle's was the best thing of its kind I've ever seen. C'mon, REAL 550s, 4-cam carreras up the wing-wang, factory race cars galore, (like F. Porsche's 904 6cyl.), RUF cars+ Alois Ruf just hanging out by them, EVERY vendor worth a shake was there, etc., etc........

Ventura Autofest is worth going to if you are local and free for the day, definitely not worth travelling for, IMO. For Dunkle's, the biggest Porsche people and collectors in the world all fly in for the weekend. NO comparison.

Man, now I am really bummed I could not make it to Dunkles. I guess I didn't know the magnitude of the event, or I would have gotten my priorities straight

			Hello,

Okay... so there are several shows that are on the West Coast to visit but... does anyone have some dates. Not necessary to give exacts but at least a month would be great so I can start planning time-off. Btw... Dunkels was awesome and I am glad I went. It was a last minute decision to drive from San Francisco but I am so glad I did. I ran into a few P Owners on the road home. Btw... I was the one with the gold and slammed Cabriolet on the grass. See ya at the next event! Calspeed
