Setting valve clearence

1983 3.0

When you guys check your valve clearance every 6-8,000 miles are you also changing the valve cover gaskets? Or do they hold up to several changes?

Thanks

I use new gaskets, nuts and washers at each adjustment.

Remember that the nuts and washers are part of the sealing mechanism, so don't reuse those either, as noted.

They do make reusable ones. Search the parts section for Silicone Valve Cover Gaskets. I have been happy with mine, but you'll find opinions for and against them here.

Ditto the hardware. You'll need to use new washers and nuts each time you remove these as well.

+! on the silicone ones. Only way to go.

Thanks for the info

How often do you check/adjust valves? The 3.2 Service Manual states 15,000 miles.

the silicone are the only way to go.

the torque is SO light on these I use the same washers and nuts.
oil should not be getting to the stud since the stud is surrounded by the gasket.

very very light torque...by hand. no gasket squeeze. if it leaks just a light touch on the nuts to stop it.

Bump for poll on mileage interval to check/adjust valves...

Also... how often do you change spark plugs?

15k for valves (sometimes i let this slip :( )

Annual winter project, usually less than 10k miles. Always new gaskets and hardware just because they come as part of the package.
