Thread on oil tank to thermostat line fitting?

Long story short, I removed the oil tank from my car (87 Carrera) and bought the oil lines for the thermostat. When we're trying to install them we realized that the thread on the tank is deformed probably from previously having been over tightened. This does not allow the fitting to go on as it gets tight after just a few turns, which would not allow the mating surfaces to properly seal.

We're going to try to repair the damaged thread with a die and see if that works. Can anyone confirm that thread size? My research came up with 19x1.5mm

Thanks in advance

Might want to look for a tank in the classifieds once those fine threads are damaged forget about it. You don,t want to cross thread your new line either.

Thanks, the threads are NOT cross threaded. They are only tighten up when I am trying to thread on the fitting. Otherwise the tank is fine. It's been hot dipped and in good shape, so before I start shopping for another one I want to try to repair the threads on this one. Also, when buying a used one, those might just be damaged the same way.

Also, if you are having trouble finding a thread die for this, look into a "thread file" I had one that I had to buy and use on my Russian tractor (on a hyd fitting). Worked like a charm

Thanks for the tip. I ordered a die from ebay. Hopefully it'll do the trick.
