Refinish heat exchangers
Has anyone refinished their heat exchangers on their own? If so what did you do? TIA

My $0.02 after going through this myself not too long ago. I got them bead blasted, then painted myself with VHT paint, and baked them in the barbecue. Bottom line...it didn't work. The real fix for long term durability is to have them ceramic coated They look great and the heat doesn't bother the finish one bit. I even had the cat done (not the pet, the one on the car) which gets pretty hot and it looks like the day it was done. For the long term, a ceramic type coating is the only way to go.

I had my 914-6 heat exchangers bead blasted and ceramic coated. Only way to go.

Ceramic coating is the way to go. I had my 914-6 heat exchangers done by Red Hot Coatings years ago and they still look great.

One word of caution if you have them ceramic coated: if your heat exchangers have any rusty spots and/or thin metal on them the bead blasting will open up the holes and make it look worse. I agree that this is the best way to go though.

I sandblasted mine and painted them with VHT heat paint. I did them in a light gray
and the still look OK after three years of running. If you look from the back of the car they still look new, not so much when you're under them. Cheers! Steve
