The car comes with a bill of sale. How much money will it take to get one? Reall 996s can be bought for less than $20k.

This doesn't make any sense in so many ways??? It had to be cheaper to have used a real 996. Why re-body an SC? I dare say it wasn't a Porsche guy who purchased that thing.

The owner has been hawking that on EBay for the last year or so (@ $75k+). I would like to meet the sucker...err..."enthusiast" who paid $38.5k for it.

Heavy, beat-up, bad panel fit, slow. $38,500 Wow. What POS. Love how they played up the "historic car" angle to pawn that thing off.

A whole lot of money was probably spent to do that conversion. Why do that to a perfectly good SC?! This is why terrible movies cost 10s of millions to make!

A 996 was brand new in 2000 so cost could have been a factor, but the given that the cost of a 996 is a drop in the bucket for a movie like gone in 60 seconds, I assume that the main consideration was that the SC was better suited to the work somehow. The ad mentions weight as a factor. I guess if you have to strip a car completely for reinforcements, cameras and safety equipment, starting with an early car makes more sense.

I saw when the bid stalled at $10,000 they said the buyer could have dinner with the seller.
I wonder if the car even runs?

I don't think it's a Porsche enthusiast's car- it's just the fact it is a prop in the movie, and has a somewhat interesting history. Yes the panel fit it terrible, yes it's slow, yes the A/C probably doesn't work

This was probably the car they used for the window breaking scene at the beginning of the movie. The body panels are probably like that because the car went through a plate glass window. They probably used a rented 996 for the actual driving in the movie.
The Low Rider by War part in the movie is quite possibly the worst scene in any movie. A POS car from a POS remake of an original POS movie.

Maybe they didn't want to get punched in the face by an airbag and get radiator coolant all over the place...

Ultimately, the buyer goes home with a 78 SC for the price of a Turbo. He can drive it around the neighborhood, and it looks great, but unless he puts 'plates or a sign on the car explaining its purported worth, nobody will be able to share the "it" about this car.
But you should buy what you love. If he loved that movie (I didn't), he now has a piece of it. Really, you only need to satisfy yourself.
