Question Oil pressure problem

I have a question for you all:

What is the normal range for your oil pressure, both when you idle, and at speed? I've never had pressure much higher than 45 or so on my 2.7 liter, but it has just recently gotten worse.

I changed the oil to Mobil 1 for the first time (new car), and I overfilled the tank (specs for the 2.7 said 13? liters, the capacity for my '73T chassis said approx. 9.5 liters, didn't want to under-fill the tank, so I split the difference. Big mistake...)

After the change, the oil pressure at idle is just under 20, at speed maybe 25-30. Seems scary low to me, so I haven't driven the car more than a couple miles. Could the pressure difference somehow be related to the change from dino to synthetic? (Doubt it) Did I somehow damage the oil pump by over-filling?

Thanks for your help, fellow forum members-

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone here seen a pressure change between dino & synthetic? Also, between higher viscosity (20W/50) to lower (10W/30)? As we're going into winter & I'm changing to synthetic, I thought lower viscosity might be good-maybe not?

Thanks-

I doubt that there is a difference between dino and synthethetic. 50w is 50w.

I also doubt your overfill did any damage other than perhaps getting oil into your cylinders via the intake manifold.

Oil pressure symptoms should cause one to first question the gauge and sending unit. A physical (Borden Tube) pressure gauge is the only reliable check here, though there are quick checks of the gauge and sender (check old posts).

Sudden oil pressure changes are not likely to reflect sudden engine wear or bearing problems. If the oil pressure really is low, suddenly, I'd check things like the pressure relief pistons and springs and stuff like that.
